The Military Education Institute offers a variety of degree programs for members stationed anywhere in the world. There are a variety of available as well as for soldiers stationed right here in Jacksonville.
SOCGUARD is the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) degree program for the Army National Guard. Once you start your degree or certificate program with Florida Community College, this agreement will allow you to transfer your credits from one institution to another and will serve as your agreement with the College for degree or certificate completion. For students who are interested in maximizing their time to degree completions, these accelerated degree programs are designed with you in mind.
When you call or e-mail one of the MEI advisors, you'll be getting educational advice from advisors who are familiar with military transfer credit and the obligations of the service member.
These roadmaps are designed to show you how to maximize the college credit you've earned in the military. By following the roadmap that matches your MOS, you'll see what you've already earned toward a specific degree.
Artemis is your virtual portal to registering for classes, viewing your grades, getting a degree audit, paying for your classes, and much more.
Once you've completed your degree, Florida Community College has negotiated transfer agreements with four year universities and colleges. By taking advantage of these agreements, you'll be able to transfer as a junior.
Note: You are not required to transfer to one of these schools. Talk to your advisor about all of your transfer options.
Army Knowledge Online (AKO)
AKO is the key to effective use of Army and Army National Guard websites and products. All Army National Guard soldiers must have an AKO account, login and password and an AKO e-mail address to use the online services available to them. Go to the AKO homepage to request an account.
Important Websites for ARNG Soldiers
- Virtual Armory – ARNG soldiers not on active duty must use this site to request Federal Tuition Assistance. This feature is under the Education tab once you login to the site. Find the online application link to start the process. This page also includes a lot of other important information and links to education topics.
- GoArmyEd – ARNG soldiers on active duty (Active Guard/Reserve and mobilized soldiers) must use this website to apply for tuition assistance benefits.
- Department of Veterans Affairs – this website will have the most current information about GI Bill benefits as well as links to apply for benefits, resolve problems, and update student information.
Tuition Assistance
Soldiers in the Army National Guard may be eligible to receive up to $4500 annually to further their education. These funds may be used to pursue a college or technical degree that could be your key to a successful civilian or military career. Apply for tuition assistance through Virtual Armory or GoArmyEd. Other Financial Assistance
Additional funds to cover tuition costs may be available to active duty personnel through the GI Bill Top Up program or you may be eligible for military scholarships. Many soldiers may qualify for special state tuition programs offered by the Florida Army National Guard.
